The Prisoners
"Thousands died at the hands of the Japanese, and many others were tortured or killed in prisons scattered across the Philippines." -War Stories “The food situation is deteriorating; their health is deteriorating. And so many of these men were dying of malaria,” -Hampton Sides "Americans Samuel Stenzler, Frank Spear and James Gallagher-captured on Bataan in 1942 -rest briefly during the hellish 60-mile march to a POW camp. The three men died in captivity" |
The Japanese gave unfair and illegal treatment to prisoners of war. Some times for pastime the Japanese would like to punish prisoners with minor crimes by; Filling prisoner with water from a hose while they were tied up with barb wire, jump on them or beating them with square poles, tying the prisoner to a tree with barb wire for two days with a bucket of water in front of them but out of reach, Forced to kneel on sharp sticks and hold a heavy rock for three hours straight, prisoner were tied to a tree branch by pinkies with toes slightly touching the ground, and releasing prisoners that had not seen day light for over two years. The Japanese did other horrible things like when they had captured a Chinese civilian and gouged his eyes out and tied him to a tree. The Japanese even used prisoners for target practice. All these forms of punishment are crimes against Humanity and are considered illegal.
